KiMo Theater / Albuquerque, New Mexico
built 1932-1936.
One of the only remaining historic Pueblo Deco architectural style buildings in the world. The theater underwent a complete restoration in 1980, when the city of Albuquerque purchased the property.
The original exterior murals and motifs were designed by Carl Von Hassler,
c. 1936.
A restoration c. 1970's compromised imagery and introduced a different color palette that diverged from the original.
Restoration included surface cleaning, repairs of the plaster substrate, uncovering the original color palette and image elements.
The restoration of the exterior murals, exterior ceiling, exterior marquee and interior medallions (shown) was completed in 2011.
The interior stage column motifs (shown) were restored in 2021.
